Application Process

Applicants MUST

Applicants must submit completed application packages online. The application will be available on April 8, 2013 and the package and any attachments must be received by April 15, 2013. Application packages received after that date will NOT be accepted.

Agency Responsibility and Review

In April, your application will be reviewed and evaluated by Human Resources for eligibility. A roster will then be submitted to the Program Manager for review and processing.

Agency Notification to Applicants

Applicants will be notified of their application status the week of April 29, 2013. All highly qualified candidates (quarterfinalists) will be required to participate in an extemporaneous writing exercise.

Extemporaneous Writing Exercise

Quarterfinalists will be asked to report to the NIH Training Center on either May 5 or 6, 2013 for an extemporaneous written exercise. You will be notified of the exact time and location the week of April 29. The written exercise will be one hour and the topic will not be made available until you report for the exercise. You will be provided all the necessary material, including a computer equipped with MS Word.

Out-of-town applicants will be given the opportunity to provide an extemporaneous writing sample from their current duty station. However, please note that out-of-town applicants who get that far will need to make their own arrangements to attend group and final interviews in Bethesda.  Additionally, out-of-town applicants need to be willing to relocate to Bethesda if ultimately accepted into the program.

Semifinalists will be notified the week of May 27, 2013.

Group Exercise

Group interviews will take place on June 6, 2013 and will include a group problem-solving exercise. The group exercise and related interview (6 or 7 individuals per group) will take approximately 45 minutes. There are no opportunities at all for rescheduling this portion of the process.

Finalists’ Interviews

Candidates for final interviews will be notified prior to panel interviews scheduled for June 20 and 21, 2013. Finalists will be notified by phone and email of their status and given the date, time and location for their final interview.

Notification of Finalists

Assessment of candidates by the ATC and the announcement of the selection of Management Interns will be finalized by the week of June 24, 2013. The Office of Human Resources will inform selectees via email. Applicants are urged to reserve the above dates on their calendar immediately. Eligibility for the Management Intern Program depends upon the number of MI positions being filled as well as the availability of highly qualified candidates and finalists on these dates.
